Name: William A. Vincent, M.D. Dates: Birth date: November 21, 1928 Death date: June 18, 2012 Obituary: William A. Vincent M.D., 83, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Monday, June 18, 2012 at the Heritage Center. William was known to some as Dr. Vincent or Doc, but most people knew him as Bill. He was born in Johnson City, New York on November 21, 1928 to the late Grant Lee and Isabell Brown (Adam) Vincent. He attended Cornel University and Cornell University Medical College. He was a member of the Phi Beta Chi, Phi Kappa Phi, and Alpha Epsilon Delta honor societies. Bill served in the United States Navy as a Lieutenant in the USNR Medical Corps. He did his medical internship at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York. His residency was done at State University of New York Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, where he was later awarded a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Research. He published several research papers while there. Bill worked as an Internist and Cardiologist and was licensed to practice in New York, Kentucky, and Indiana. He was certified as a Diplomate by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Internal Medicine. He was also certified by the Indiana State Board. Bill worked at Welborn Baptist Hospital. He was instrumental in starting their Coronary Intensive Care Unit and served as Chairman of the unit. He went on to become Chief of Internal Medicine at Welborn. Bill was very involved in his profession. He was a member of the American College of Physicians, American Medical Association, American Society of Internal Medicine, American Heart Association, Indiana State Medical Association, Indiana Society of Internal Medicine, and Vanderburgh County Medical Society. Bill loved practicing medicine and has a reputation for his extreme dedication to patient care. Bill was a member of Morningside Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and went on mission trips to places including Mississippi and Indian reservations in the west. He was interested in history, enjoyed nature, birds, and fishing and loved to visit fish hatcheries. Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joy (Biska) Vincent of Evansville, IN; daughters, Mary Vincent (Mark Melick) of Grayslake, IL, Lynn Vincent of Grayslake, IL; sons, John Vincent (Deborah) of Rochester, NY, Donald Vincent (Nancy) of Mason, OH; grandchildren, Sara Sparks (Dale), Benjamin Vincent (Lindsey), Matthew Vincent, Paul Vincent, Elyse Vincent and Jill Vincent and great-granddaughter, Emily Grace Sparks. Bill is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley Howell. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 1, 2012 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Avenue, Evansville, Indiana 47711 with Pastor James Messer officiating.
