Obituaries

Frances Catherine (Brey) Nellis, 82, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Friday, June 8, 2012 at Deaconess Hospital.

Frances was born in Davis County, Kentucky on May 24, 1930 to the late John and Eva (Sadler) Brey. Frances was a faithful member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church for over fifty years. She was a fabulous cook and was always taking food to the church for bereavement meals. Her fried chicken was a family specialty. She was an avid gardener and spent many hours canning her harvest. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

Frances is survived by her daughters, Donna C. Helfert (David Sr.) and Eva M. Jones (Stacy), both of Evansville; sons, James E. Nellis Jr. (Vickie), William A. Nellis, Thomas E. Nellis (Kelle), Timothy J. Nellis Sr. (Sharon), all of Evansville; siblings, Ruby Russellburg, Laura Shrecker, Rondel Brey, JD Brey, Donald Brey, Margie McLimore, Kelly Brey; 18 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

Frances is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, James E. Nellis Sr. in 2001; siblings, William Brey, Leland Brey, Gene Brey, Essie Byrne; 1 grandchild; and 2 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 918 West Mill Road, Evansville, Indiana 47710 with Father Paul Ferguson officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit from 2:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, Indiana 47711 with a rosary service at 7:00 PM.
Friends may also visit on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until mass time at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
